Our friend Chatham ran to the Rainbow Bridge today at 4:30. He just recently celebrated his 20th birthday. Please think about his Cat Couch, Dad, Twin Girls & Salem as they miss Chatham.

Tiger Lily tagged us for the 7 random thingies. I'm taking my turn since Ghost already did hers.

1. I was named for soccer (football for our European friends) player Mia Hamm. My Mom didn't name me - I already was Mia when I came to live here. My former "owner" moved & left me outside.

2. When I want something I tell whoever will listen & meow loudly until I get my message through to the humans (they are slow sometimes).

3. I love human food... currently I've been having BBQ, shrimp & chicken while I help clean up the leftovers from the party.

4. Mom is my favorite person but I love my Granddad & Aunt too. My Aunt rescued me & got her sister (Mom) to come take me to my forever home.

5. I must snoopervise everyone in the house. Mom has to have my help when she is working or cooking or doing laundry, etc.

6. I have black paw pads, blue eyes & combination of white, black and grey fur.

7. I have morning routine where Mom feeds me breakfast and she stays with me while I eat (she has to drink her diet dr pepper to get going) then after I'm through eating she lets me have some milk. Then she can go get ready for her day.

Jen AKA the Mom here... thanks for everyone's wishes for my Dad. I think we surprised him with the party. I promised not to give away his age! We survived my nephew's college graduation on Monday. I'm very proud of my Emory graduate but whoever made out schedule for it to start at 8:00am on Monday should be beaten. Work is crazy for me right now so the girl's posting may be sporadic at best. We try to get around to as many blogs as we can each day.

1. As you might can tell from my picture, I only have one eye. This was picture right after I came back from V-E-T. If you look closely you can see my stitches where eye was removed.

2. I was a feral kitty when I came here but Mom helped me trust her & convinced me to come move in with her.

3. I'm a girl! Sometimes people don't know because my name doesn't give them any clue.

4. My Granddaddy's (Mom's Dad) birthday is tomorrow (5/13). Shhh... they are planning a surprise party and letting him think it is for Mom's nephew who is graduating from Emory Monday.

5. I have lost all my teeth - some never came in due to my diet as kitten. Others have either been pulled or fallen out due to infections

6. I'm still mad that BG (that d-o-g) is living here. But I'm not scared of her cause I know Mom wouldn't let anything happen to me.

Mom hasn't been helping us with blog very much because she is working all the time. We hope it will get better but she isn't very hopeful - she is sitting around looking at her laptop mumbling about JDBC, C, databases, VPN, sftp, and other stuff. Hi, Ghost here... this is an old picture of me. We are having some pretty strong storms in Alabama tonight. We need the rain but hate the thunder & lightning (BG is scared of the thunder).

You two stop fighting... We need to ask everyone to keep DKM & family in your thoughts with the loss of Joaquin, Bear has also been at the vet - we have been purring for her & her family. Friday Feline Facts by Mia

1) Ghost has no toofies (long story that we can post if people want more details)
2) I (Mia) have had four toofies pulled because they infected
3) I am part Meezer with blue eyes (they same color as Mom's eyes) & Meezer voice.
4) Ghost is all white. She has one green eye. (other eye was removed - another long story)
5) I am not a lap cat but I like to be in same room with the humans or know exactly where they are at all times.
6) Ghost likes to sleep & be left alone except for being fed.
7) I like to go into the bathroom & meow - it helps amplify my voice
8) Ghost hides behind the washing machine if scared. She also growls & hisses
9) Mom is my favorite person but Granddaddy is okay if she isn't around.

5) The V-E-T said I'm a Jack Russell and am about 2 1/2 years old

Answers to Front Yard Questions

Thanks for all your wonderful comments about our yard. We thought we would try to answer some of your questions.

We saw lots of questions about the chickens. They are contained in their house so they don't bother us (other than the smell.) We don't get feathers to play with though or get to visit the chickens. The chicken houses use to belong to our family but we sold them off because they are lots of work.

Eric asked about Evil Intruder Kitties - there are some places to hide but BG (the woofie) keeps them out of the yard. Yes, there are some mices out there to chase.

To answer the question about size... we do have a large yard. Our house sits on a five acre plot of land so we have lots of land. We are able to have that much land because we live in country and used to have farm.

We hope we were able to answer your questions. We will try to post more pictures for all our friends who have all the snow since it is still nice outside today.

Front Yard

Derby was describing where he lived on his blog & we added our description but also thought ya'll might be interested in the view of our yard. This is our front yard. Those are fruit trees along the right side & you can see part of one of the chicken houses in the distance. Hope the sunshine makes those of you with lots of cold & snow feel warmer.

Thoughts for Thursday

Mom has been real busy with work & hasn't made time to help us post. We've been trying to keep up with everyone's blogs and leave comments but sometimes there aren't enough hours in day. So here are some random thoughts (1st two are serious) for Thursday from us & Mom :

1) We hope all our friends & their familes all recover and/or feel better soon. We think about ya'll a lot.

2) We want all friends who are looking for jobbies to find one that not only pays well & has benefits but also is as enjoyable as possible (Mom said most jobbies have good & bad days no matter what you do)

3) We wonder why their isn't mouse flavored cat food.

4) Are there seeing eye humans for blind dogs?

5) Do stairs go up or down?

6) Isn't it funny how the word 'politics' is made up of the words 'poli' meaning 'many' in Latin, and 'tics' as in 'bloodsucking creatures’?

7) Why is it that when things get wet they get darker, even though water is clear??

8) Why isn't chocolate considered a vegetable, if chocolate comes from cocoa
beans, and all beans are a vegetable?

9) If something "goes without saying," why do people still say it?

10) Why is the 0 on a phone after 1 and not before 1?

11) How come you pay an extra 25 cents to get something put on your hamburger but they don't take off the price if you get something taken off?

12) If all of the Acme stuff doesn't work, why does Wile Coyote keep buying their products?

We hope everyone has a very Happy Holiday (whatever you celebrate). We are wrapping presents today as you can see I'm having to snoopervise (thanks George for teaching us that word) the wrapping. We didn't get our wishlist in on Wednesday because Mom is slow but here is ours....

Ghost : all our blogging friends (beans as well as fluffies & feathers) to have good health & happiness, all homeless animals & beans to find a forever home to be safe & loved, Grilled Chicken Stinky Goodness (I did get some already for holiday - thanks Beau & Beau's Mom), and I'd like to wish for many more years of good health & love in my forever home.

Mia : I want what Ghost wants for our friends & other homeless beans & animals as well, Temptations (I already ate bag that Beau & his Mom sent me), fevery butt mousies, cat dancer and scratching pad.

BG : I also agree with Mia & Ghost about the wishes for friends, plus I want treats, new collor & ID tag (with this as my furever home on it), Mia & Ghost to like me or at least tolerate me, more play time & rides with Mom, someone to throw the ball to me until I'm tired, and more stuffed toys to tear apart (thank you Beau & Beau's Mom - I already removed the squeakers from Boo Boo & he only comes out for visits when Mom can watch me now).

Jen (AKA Mom) : I need to echo the girls about our friends. I'd also wish for good health & happiness for my family (fluffies & beans alike). Please everyone have a safe holiday season regardless of what you celebrate this time of year if anything at all. Now I must get back to wrapping gifts...

After Thanksgiving

We hope all our friends had a nice Thanksgiving (or just a nice Thursday for our friends from outside the US). We had lots of people in the house (too many if you ask us) but lots of good food. Ohhh... Miles would be excited because ham came to our house (we think there might be some left if anyone would like some). But we learned something! Mom & our Aunt Gail know how to cook a turkey!!!! It is delicious... We have been eating on it since Thursday but there isn't much left. It is unseasonably warm and pretty down here so if anyone is cold and miserable come on down... Time to take a nap before having turkey for dinner....

Thankful

I am thankful for not having to worry about when I will get to eat, being able to nap without fearing that something will hurt me & for my family who loves & understands me even when I hiss & growl when I am remembering my days while I was on my own ~ Ghost

Updates by Mia

Meow... Mia here... it has been a while since we posted & we wanted to let everyone know it is Mom's fault that we haven't blogged recently. Some bad anniversaries & lots of work has Mom way behind on stuff. But enough about her... I'm feeling better but still not gaining any weight. Mom said something about it being time for the rabies shot but I don't want to go! I've been keeping busy demanding to be fed (BBQ is wonderful) & looking out the windows. Ghost has been busy sleeping & hissing - she doesn't even like to come out of her room very much now. The woofie who lives here now stays outside most of the time so as not to bother us. She came in the other day & I chased her out. Anyway, we have been trying to keep up with everyone's blogs but it is hard when Mom isn't around. Hope ya'll are all doing well.... Purrs...

Hello everyone... my name is B.G. (short for baby girl). I am the new resident in Alabama living with Mia & Ghost. They don't like it very much but I'm staying! We are kept separate as much as possible. Anyway, I'm about 2 years old and am a Jack Russell woofie. I like to ride in monsters with wheels, belly rubs & chasing tennis balls ~ B.G.

Formerly Feral Friday

A long time ago, Mom saw this little dirty white cat running across the yard into the pasture. She at first thought it might be Blanket (the one who came before me as he just had disappeared several weeks earlier). But no it was a small hungry dirty little white kitty who didn't trust humans at all. So Mom started feeding me & watching from inside to make sure I ate then she started staying outside with me while I ate. Finally after while I finally got close enough for Mom to touch. I finally felt safe enough to take a bath & she saw my beautiful white fur. Now almost 12 years later I am an inside cat who still will growl & hiss at everyone but I know in my heart that Mom won't let anyone hurt me & though I have had a rough life I'm very grateful to have landed my furrever home. I hope all the feral kitties out there are as lucky as me...

Mia Update

The dread pirate blogger won't let me upload any pictures but Mia wanted to at least give all her friends an update since ya'll have been asking after her.

Hi, ya'll... I survived the visit to the vet. They poked & proded at me then sent me home with 10 days worth of medicine that I just finished (YUCK!). I'm feeling a little better and seem to be eating more. The vet is concerned about my heart & liver so Mom will call him back in less than 2 weeks to tell him how I am doing. I might have to go back. Updates from Ghost

Hi, everyone... Ghost here... I'm giving updates on things down here in Alabama so here goes. Mia has appointment with V-E-T tomorrow to have blood work done to see why she is losing weight. The intruder looks to have taken up permanent residence on the car port. We may let her introduce herself later but right now she is tired because she has just gotten back from the V-E-T herself. Bathrooms are finally pretty much complete so no more noise from that for now. I'm doing fine and Mom is pretty busy with work so there is your update from down here. Hope everyone is well and now I need to take a nap!

Our Furriend Luna is Home

Teleporting Away from Noise

Mia & Ghost are quite upset because there is work going on at the house and their world has been turned upside down by noise and where they are allowed to go and not go during the day. Hopefully by end of next week the work will be done & their worlds will be back in line so they will stop complaining.

5 Weird Things/Habits

We got tagged by Edsel on this thing that's going around. We have to give 5 wierd things we & Mom do, and pass it along to five more bloggers. You have to notify them they've been tagged and then they carry it on. They have to make sure they tell these instructions on the blog.
Mia:
1. Has to know where Mom and/or Granddad is at all times if they are in house
2. Knows that 9:00pm is when Mom makes Ghost comes in if she has gone outside
3. Tries to sneak out of house but is scared of outside
4. Wants to go to bed every night at 10:30pm - gets mad if she has to wait long after that
5. Has been hiding because of all the noise in the basement

Ghost:
1. Hates being picked up
2. Likes to lay outside on the car port but wants door to the house open just in case she needs to come in
3. Hisses at Mia if they are in same room (they have lived together since 1995)
4. Kind of a loner. Likes to find out of the way places to sleep. Like behind the washing machine
5. Has to endure having nails clipped cause she has had ingrown claw before and can't bite her back claws off

Mom:
1. Looks at computer all day and calls it work
2. Reads books, lots of books, in her spare time.
3. Listens to lots of different kinds of music
4. Talks to the computer (she said that wasn't weird that everyone at work did it but we think it is weird)
5. Shops way too much (we think she has a shoe fetish especially for boots)

Hit & Run Kitty

We read about this on Beau's blog & felt like we had to help spread the word...

For those of you who haven't heard, a guy named Malcolm found a kitten that had been a victim of hit and run. The kitten was still alive so he scooped it up and rushed it to a vet.
The kitten had to have hip surgery. The total vet bill is running him $1300, and that's with the vet writing the majority off. Malcolm needs our help. He did the right thing by taking the kitten to the vet and saving it's life, but he doesn't have that kind of money. He has set up a donation place on his website (through PayPal). The kitten will also need a forever home AND a name as well. Thinking

We hope to be posting regularly again soon. However, we are trying to decide if we want to continue with this blogging or not. Some of it is proving to be more trouble then fun. Ghost Update

Ghost here... I'm feeling fine - my nose is still a little bloody & tender cause I won't let Mom touch it. I think I just ran into something. Sometimes it is hard to see with just the one eye. Anyway... we'd like to wish all the Moms out there a very Happy Mother's Day. Our Mom is a little down because she misses her Mom terribly (it has only been about six months since our Grandmother went to heaven). Purrs to all....

Oh, and everyone who reads last post but doesn't read the comments... I found a SNAKE in the basement. Mom put lots of smelly things down there (they are moth balls ~ Jen) and I haven't been able to find the snake since then. Mom has been out of town but she is going to hopefully help send the prize to the first correct guesser who was Bonnie Underfoot!!! Also we got wonderful package from the Calico Girls with all kind of goodies in it. Thanks very much. We hope to get pictures of where I helped open it up tomorrow. Ghost isn't feeling very well as she has a bloody nose where we think she ran into something that she couldn't see. We will keep everyone updated on her....

One Year!

May 6, 2005 was our first blog entry. One year ago today! A lot has changed since then... we lost our Gramma & several blogging furriends who we miss terrribly. We'd like to thank all our furriends for all of your support for the past year and we hope to spend many more years online together... Mom vetoed our party idea because she is getting ready to leave us to go to conference thingy on Sunday for work. So we thought we'd turn this into a tribute of sorts... what has changed the most in the last year for you? Ours is losing our Gramma...

BTW... Mia here - Mom won't tell anyone about the excitment we had on Tuesday but I will... I had gone downstairs to the basement & finally got the critter out from under the old fridge that is down there. Mom came down and found us (she yelled really loud) then closed me upstairs. Well, when she got back downstairs trying to figure out what to do the critter had disappeared. Mom said that if someone could guess what I was trying to get that she would help us send a prize so give us your best guess. Oh and we still don't know where the critter is so I haven't been allowed back downstairs unescorted. Good luck...

First, we are a day behind but yesterday (April 14th) was Beau's Mom's birthday. We know they are having some computer problems so we hope they can have that cleared up soon so we can hear more from them.

Today is the 1st purrthday for our Spanish friend Luna and purrthday number 4 for the handsome Jasper McKitten...

We hope all of them had a wonderful day and that everyone enjoys their weekend.

Purrthday and other things

Meow... We are having trouble uploading pictures to our bloggy today. mom has been very busy so we need to give some quick updates while she is giving us a chance. I (Mia) am feeling fine after my V-E-T visit even if they did pull two of my teeth. Ghost is sleeping all the time. Our woofie friend Lucy is on medicine for kidney disease - they don't know yet how that will turn out. Lucy's human brother Ryan is having a purrthday today. He turns 14 so happy purrthday Ryan...

Meow - Mia here.... I've recovered from my trip to the V-E-T but I have two fewer teeth now (but more than Ghost) but it is okay cause they hurt. I'd also like to give you some more news. My doggie friend Lucy is going to have an ultrasound done tomorrow to see why she can't keep her food down. Please think of her & her family... Also Mom is working on taming an outside kitty - will give more information as Mom tames her.

Purrayers for Friends

Please keep our cat blogging friends Crystal who had to make an emergency trip to the vet. She has kidney failure and they put an IV in her and a catheter (yuck!) in your thoughts/purrayers. And Buddy who is recovering after a visit to the V-E-T. As well as Oscar who is having an op-er-way-shun on Wednesday for his paw and his friend Maddison who is doing better.

Update on Lucy - she is still at the V-E-T where they are running blood tests. They have gotten rid of some of the fluid & are planning to take X-rays too. Hopefully she will be home soon.

Thoughts

We (Mom included) would like you to keep Lucy (her best friend's dog) in your thoughts/purrayers. Lucy had to go to the V-E-T today because she has fluid in her belly. They are running tests and watching her this weekend. This is the same friend who lost Ozzie the dalamation that we mentioned a few months ago.

We'd also like to thank everyone who answered our seven questions (see last post) and if you haven't answered please do so. Mom is going to help us with our responses to everyone this weekend.

New Year's Resolutions & Other stuff

First here are our resolutions:

Ghost - sleep, eat & hiss at sisfur Mia
Mia - sleep, eat & annoy my sisfur Ghost
Mom - eat healther, exercise, sleep more & try not to let work stress me out (same ones I've had for last 8 years!!!)

We have been after Mom to help us more with our blog (opposable thumbs would make life so much easier). She promised to help us update our links because we have lots of friends we would like to add so if you would like to be linked please either leave a comment or send us an email at mia_and_ghost@yahoo.com - we hope Mom will be able to do this over the weekend. We also hope to have more pictures on our site in future however Ghost hates the camera which makes it difficult. Any suggestions on changes/improvements to site will be considered....

Purrthday!!!

Happy purrthday to Ryan!!! He is Mom's nephew - does that make him our cousin??? Anyway - happy 11th and we hope you have many more!!!

Rainbow Bridge

Our Mom's best friend's dalamation doggie went to rainbow bridge today. We never met Ozzie but we know his human and canine family miss him. Mom said he was a big spot a dot doggie who had been sick with liver problems.

Words from Mom

Mia and Ghost wanted me to update all our friends on how the family is holding up. We had a good Thanksgivng but it was a little depressing because we cleared out most of my Mother's clothing (it was a lot). Fortunately my sisters were able to help a great deal and most of the clothes were donated. Christmas is going to be hard again this year (last year Mother was in the hospital during Christmas)...

In other news... I'm working on my Christmas shopping. I always seem to get my neice & nephews a lot of stuff that they want... Speaking of the kids, I saw where the Poi Rats & Cats human sister Kinsey is being home schooled this year. My sister has home schooled all three of her children - she is still home schooling her 13 year old & 10 year old (my oldest nephew is in college). Hope that is working out well for Kinsey & her Mom.

Weather is bad here tonight (thunderstorms, tornado warnings, and high wind) so I need to sign off now. Hope everyone has a safe evening and that the storms pass through without causing any damage...

Bad day

Mom took me to stabby place this morning!!! I had two sticks for vaccinations but then they did other things to me! And that mean old vet talked about my age & that I needed more dry cat food & less stinky goodness! All because I've lost weight. It not fair!!!!

A word from Mom

I've taken over the blog for today to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and purrayers. My Mom lost her battle with cancer and even though we miss her terribly - we are comforted by the knowledge that she is no longer in pain. I just got back from the funeral home not long ago and the number of people and flowers was overwhelming for myself and my family. Thanks to all of my friends & family for all the in person & online comforting thoughts & purrayers

A word from our Mom...

I (and the cats) would like to wish my parents a very happy 49th wedding aniversary! That is a LONG time!!! I would like to also thank all my online friends (both human & feline) for all the prayers (or as the girls call them purrayers) for my family. Mother is still in a lot of pain and is now taking more pain medicine. I believe the pain medicine is helping Mother be more comfortable. Now back to the girls.... Jen


Mom is very concern about Gramma & we are doing as much as we can to help Mom feel better. Well at least I am - Ghost hisses at her. I think Ghost has athritis in her back paws causing them to hurt and to limp. I hope she feels better she is always grumpy if she has to go to the V-E-T.... Mia
